I have over 15 years of experience in the education field. Certified in Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies and Special Education for grades K-8. I believe that both genuine connection with students and finding how to make material engaging is the key to learning.
Hi!
Welcome to the website and thanks for visiting the "About" page. This page is a space where I will share things that I believe are both important in education today and also relevant to the philosophy of education I use to teach kids. Please feel free to reach out to comment or ask questions. Look below for a learning style quiz for students and a Ted Talk by Rita Pierson that has had a place in my heart for over 6 years.

Individualized Education For All Learners.
No cookie-cutter learning happening around here. At Kids Choice Tutoring we believe everyone is an individual and deserves to be treated and taught as such.
From learning style assessments to diagnostics that show where your child is accomplished and where a gap may exist, an individualized plan can be created to perfectly match your little learner.
" If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.".
A couple of years into my career as a teacher I heard this wonderful quote. This idea was one that has stuck with me and one that I have seen to be true time and time again. Not everyone learns the same way. Unfortunately, most of us are taught the same way due to the constraints of public education, its a bad deal if your learning style is not visual or auditory. My goal is always to try and find out how my students like to learn as this usually coincides with how they learn best. There are many learning inventories students can take that help to determine learning style. I have included two you can try at home, I can also send the adult versions of either inventory if any parents have an interest in finding out their learning style.
"People don't learn from people they don't like"- Rita Pierson
I first saw this video 12 years ago in teacher training. As simple as the message is it made me have an a-ha moment.

Taking time to make connections with my students became one of the pillars of my philosophy on education and teaching.

I have included the talk Mrs. Rita Pierson gave. She is a wonderful storyteller and it is something everyone can relate to. I still watch it at least 10 times a year.
